A planetary speed reducer, also known as a planetary gearbox or planetary gear system, is a remarkable mechanical device used to reduce the rotational speed and increase the torque of a power transmission system. The design of a planetary speed reducer consists of several key components. At its core, it features a central sun gear which is surrounded by multiple smaller gears known as planet gears. These planet gears are held in place by a carrier or arm and they mesh with both the sun gear and an outer ring gear, commonly referred to as the ring gear.This arrangement forms a system of interlocking gears.
When the input shaft, connected to the sun gear, rotates, it drives the planet gears which in turn rotate around the sun gear while also engaging with the ring gear. As a result, the rotation of the input shaft is divided and transmitted through the planet gears, creating an output shaft connected to the carrier or arm.
